Quality Map Product Analysis
RIT Printing Applications Laboratory provides this valuable service for manufacturers of paper inks, blankets and other printing materials interested in improving key product characteristics, or those who want to compare their products to the competition in critical performance areas.

What is a Quality Map?
A "Quality Map" is a two- or three-dimensional diagram that compares a contrast resolution index (CRI) to other variables. The CRI is a unique performance indicator, developed by RIT, which provides a quantitative measurement of image contrast and resolution. It is derived from solid ink density and maximum dot gain readings.

To construct a Quality Map, information is collected from press sheets run during print trials. Data from the sheets are collected and analyzed using a computerized image analyzer, a densitometer, or gloss meter, depending on what is being evaluated.

Deliverables
Results show manufacturers how their products will stack up against the competition when the ink hits the paper and what improvements are needed to increase market share.
